Job PurposeYou will manage, continuously improve, develop and standardise the sites Food Safety and Quality Management Systems across Wisbech and Long Sutton sites. Ensuring the systems comply in accordance with legislation, central policies, customer requirements and BRC/IFS standards, implementing industry “best practices”. You will deputise for the Canning Technical Manager in their absence if required.
You will help define, maintain and assist in the effective delivery of the Site Quality Strategy and the Must Win Battle Plan. Including drive for continuous improvements in GMP, Food Safety Culture and fit for purpose systems and controls.
Within this position you will establish and maintain cross site collaboration with other Princes sites to continuously share knowledge and drive continuous improvement whilst applying right 1st time behaviours across the function and with all stakeholders.
HoursThis is a Monday - Friday 08.45 - 17.00 position onsite in Long Sutton.

The site operates in a highly competitive market with both own label and branded sectors. Communication of, and compliance to, all legislative customer and Company food standards is essential in maintaining quality standards, customer satisfaction and market share in the canned foods sector. The role of the Quality Systems Manager is to continuously improve the QMS systems across both sites (Food Safety, Quality Management and Business Initiatives) ensuring the site continually achieves the standards of required of a “World Class” food manufacturing facility.
The role will support the Canning Technical Manager in proactively identifying and driving opportunities to improve the site systems and processes delivering the key business objectives of Princes Foods.
The Quality Systems Manager is the key contact for site managers, accreditation bodies, local EHO, retail customers, central Technical department and service providers for quality systems and procedural matters.
A source of knowledge and expertise on the Long Sutton & Wisbech QMS, ensuring that accurate, up to date information is available on the individual site standards of product safety, quality and consistency, processes and technical information.
Principal Responsibilities
Manage the Internal Audit Programmes for both sites ensuring all appropriate aspects QMS, Food Safety, are maintained ensuring that:
- Schedules are defined following risk assessment principles. This will ensure consideration is incorporated for legislative, industry and customer COP guidelines.
- Frequencies are maintained in accordance with agreed schedules
- Fit for purpose qualified / trained auditing team are in place using business expertise and cross site
- collaboration.
- Manage the communication of detailed reports and monthly updates on the sites performances are provided and managing the non compliances and corrective actions to ensure satisfactory and timely completion
- Escalation where applicable of key areas of concern
- All stakeholders are working to ensure non conformances identified are risk assessed, root cause investigated and sustainable corrective action implemented.
- Manage and participate in internal Food Safety and QMS Audits and working across all departments and sites to identify & highlight both good & bad practices, reporting against site KPI’s, alerting site Technical and Production Managers to potential product safety issues or non-conformance to legal & customer standards.
- Support the Technical Team in HACCP studies, reviewing production records for compliance to CCPs. Review, identify non-correlation with manufacturing processes, progress appropriate controls for CCP’s, verify and update HACCP plan;
Manage the QMS Team to ensure the following:
- They are working with key stakeholders to set up and undertake audits to agreed schedule. They are working with key stakeholders to identify issues and close out NCR’s.
- Understand and develop the QSM team by assessing and defining training needs driving continuous improvement.
- Management of NCR’s systems and engagement of key stakeholders to ensure collaborative working. NCR’s to be managed to ensure effective right 1st time close out on corrective actions and effective and feasible timescale
- Promote & encourage a Food Safety culture ensuring high standards in Food Safety, QMS, GMP, H&S, Environmental leading by example.
- Manage the review and updating of QMS (site quality management system), liaising effectively with key stakeholders.
- Manage the maintenance of all accreditation standards communicating requirements on updates, outcomes to all relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure that the site is prepared in advance of audits by external agencies ( primarily EHO, TSO, BRC/IFS and other relevant certification bodies and all customers) and report corrective actions and action plans required in appropriate timescale and sustainable corrective actions.
- Key Stakeholder in continuous improvement of the site Technical Strategy, identifying and driving improvements to product safety and quality.
- Manage, develop KPI’s for QMS systems and Internal Auditing across each area effectively demonstrating performance and adherence.
- Support the business and site supplier assurance teams and technical team by undertaking audits of suppliers or warehousing in response to quality issues or risk assessment review.
- Record keeping and housekeeping of electronic folders, emails and paper documentation.
- Manage and develop the QMS team and auditing teams across both sites to optimise flexibility, performance and competency. Manage their workload and review/update priorities as required.
- Identify own training needs and with Canning Technical Manager agree a time plan for achieving this.
- Personally demonstrate the correct safety behaviours, ensuring safe operating practices are followed.
- Complete Accident and Near Miss reports as required. Ensure any recommendations are completed and actioned. Support site initiatives to reduce accidents and near misses.
- Provide assurance to customers and other stakeholders about the authenticity and integrity of products.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive and develop initiatives for continuous improvement for QMS, food safety culture awareness across the business.
- Promote a continuous improvement approach to right 1st time behaviours across the site to reduce issues or non compliance from external auditors.
- Deliver continuous improvement projects from ideas generation to completion. Track effects of improvement projects and report on progress.
- Responsible for achieving personal development objectives.
Communication
- Promote the importance and benefits of effective QMS systems across both sites in dealings and communication with colleagues at all levels both internally and externally of the site and across all support functions.
- Communicate priorities and discuss concerns with team and stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Sharing status on sites performance with external bodies as part of liaison with appropriate regulatory bodies (EHO, TSO, HSE), accreditation bodies and customers.
