Job Purpose:

Ensure the smooth running of NPD within the relevant business area. Communicate clearly to the team, the site team, and wider business the status of NPD projects.

To manage NPD technologists, giving clear accountability and expectations of timescales for project completions.

Dimensions:
  • Responsible for new product development for a specified area of the business (Category, Group of categories, Site)
  • Launches of ~100 NPD/EPD products each year for the company’s food manufacturing portfolio.
  • External contact with customers; internal contact with own department, Sales and Buying teams.                                                                       
Principal Accountabilities:
  • To ensure that both new (NPD) and existing products (EPD) developed are in accordance with the NPD procedure and customer requirements / codes of practice.                                
  • Presentation of NPD and EPD to customers, on and off site.
  • Chair meetings regarding NPD projects / feasibility and challenges with relevant site / business functions.
  • To ensure all samples from kitchen and relevant trials are sent for internal and external signoff in an organised and timely manner. 
  • Liaise with buying to arrange and deliver NPD raw materials and ingredients to site.
  • Assist NPD Technologists in the NPD kitchen if required.
  • To work closely with the wider NPD team, ensuring there is clear communication / handover notes to guarantee seamless continuity in operation. 
  • Liaise closely with the factory implementation (Process) team to ensure factory trials are carried out according to procedure and critical path.
  • Assist in production trials when necessary particularly new product designs and concepts.
  • Confirm that all relevant information is passed to technical in a timely manner to complete customer specifications, artwork and internal paperwork.
​​​​Qualifications, Background and Experience:
  • Degree in Food Science or related discipline or equivalent relevant experience and experience of managing food development projects.
  • Preferably experience of ambient stable product development from concept to manufacture.
  • A passion for food, trends and consumer direction.
  • Proven people management skills and experience as a people manager.
  • Good interpersonal skills and skilled in making presentations. 
  • Computer literate with competency in Excel , Word and PowerPoint
