Job Purpose
The Manufacturing Systems Team work closely with Group Manufacturing, Group Engineering, Group IT and Site Project Teams to deliver and support the manufacturing vision set out in the Princes Manufacturing Systems Strategy through implementation and support of appropriate manufacturing systems, equipment and technology.
 
The role of Manufacturing System Solution Developer is to work with Solutions Architects, Group IT, Site project teams and 3rd party Systems Integrators to deliver the end to end solutions defined by the Solution Architects across all of the Princes Food and Drinks manufacturing sites.
 
The Manufacturing Systems team has a number of Solution Developer roles that provides plant integration solutions through 4 levels of the Princes IT architecture model. Working as part of a team  solution developers and with other teams within the Group IT function the role works to ensure the deliver Manufacturing Systems to the Princes Group manufacturing sites in line with the requirements of the Group Manufacturing Strategy.
 
This role focuses primarily on level 3 to level 0 of the architecture which is the development of the MES platform and the interfaces to and from SAP and to and from PLCs and other manufacturing devices. 
 
The role will also need to develop a deep understanding of the interaction and interdependency between SAP and the Manufacturing Execution Systems to which SAP sends and receives information.
 
Dimensions:
  • Providing third line support for manufacturing systems across 11 sites operating across various shift patterns 24/7
  • Liaising with Princes Internal IT and 3rd Party organisations responsible for providing support, maintenance and development
  • Works a team member with other Solution Developers
  • Will be required to work outside of normal working hours as and when required by project demands
 The role will require travel and periods away from home.


Principal Responsibilities

Manufacturing Systems Development
  • Interpretation of the end to end solution defined by the solution architects into MES  configuration and functionality and hardware
  • To develop solutions in line with the MES Standard processes and Princes configuration standards
  • Configuration of the MES system to meet business needs with adherence to internal policies and procedures.
  • Definition and documentation of functional specifications required for bespoke development to be delivered by external partners
  • Maintain detailed configuration documentation
 
Manufacturing System Testing
  • Define, develop and document robust test plans to ensure the all aspects of system testing are successfully completed, including unit, integration, interfaces and regression testing.
  • Carry out system testing in line with test plans and project plans.
  • Ensure that all testing issues are clearly documented and work with the relevant parties to resolve outstanding issues
  • To assist with the testing of end to end solutions across all levels of the solution and support Factory Acceptance of newly developed MES solutions and associated hardware
  • Ensure that outstanding issues and any associated risks are escalated to the Project manager
  • Assist user departments with the user acceptance testing that is required for the introduction of new processes
 
Manufacturing System Deployment
  • Installation and configuration of any MES associated hardware, for example, scanners, printers, HMIs
  • Testing and commissioning of hardware installed with the MES software and applications
  • Testing of MES interfaces to PLCs and resolution of any issues.
 
Manufacturing Systems Change Management
  • To ensure that changes to system architecture, platforms and software are managed through the appropriate change processes, and mechanisms to track changes are maintained.
  • Liaise with other Group IT teams, Operations teams and 3rd parties to correctly manage the implementation of change.
  • Adherence to the company’s governance and management procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant internal controls.
 
Manufacturing Systems Training and Education
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of educational materials and documentation using the Princes Standard e-training platform.
  • Delivery of manufacturing systems training to project team member, Key Users and End users
 
Manufacturing Systems Support & Maintenance
  • Provide system support for manufacturing projects during the hypercare period following go-live. Ensuring that issues are resolved and documented
  • Provision of all documentation required for transition to the service desk in accordance with the transition standards and timescales.
  • Assist the manufacturing system Support Analysts on the resolution of issues as and when required.
  • Work with external partners to resolve and test resolution of fixes
  • Execute maintenance plans for implemented software in line with the plans defined by the Solution Architects.
  • Assist with the delivery of planned upgrades to the software deployed in the manufacturing systems domain.
  • Liaise and manage third party suppliers of equipment and software in the provision of support for manufacturing systems solutions.
 
Communication
  • Work closely with peers as part of the Manufacturing Systems Team and the Group IT Department.
  • Work closely with manufacturing sites senior management teams to realise objective based performance and drive the group sites forward on their improvement targets set within the Princes Manufacturing System framework.
  • Work closely with other departments such as Group Manufacturing, Group Technical, Group Engineering to drive the manufacturing systems solutions forward.
  • Ensure communication to other sites and peers are undertaken as and when required to ensure consistency and best practice.
  • Build a culture of open, honest and respectful communication

Continuous Improvement
  • Support the continuous improvement policy deployment through application of appropriate technology.
  • Quality assurance and auditing of the use of the Manufacturing Systems Solutions implemented  in line with the audits and auditing plans developed by the Solution Architects

 


Knowledge, Skills & Experience
 
  • At least 1 years experience working with manufacturing execution systems, for example SAP-MII, AVEVA Model driven MES product stack Operation, Performance, Quality, EI, Workflow, System Platform
  • Experience in Software programming languages (e.g SQL, HTML,XML, C,C#, C+, VB, JavaScript)
  • Experience in Software installations and implementation
  • Experience in software development lifecycle and best practices
  • Proven experience of dealing with technical and business people within the context of IT systems implementation.
  • Broad understanding of business processes associated with all aspects of an FMCG manufacturing operation.
  • Proven experience of dealing with technical and business people within the context of IT systems implementation.
  • Detailed understanding of developing test scripts for scenario impact analysis
  • Project management skills from concept to delivery.
  • Ability to test changes to manufacturing systems and feedback on improvements
  • In depth understanding of SAP master data.
  • Strong understanding of interfacing techniques used to connect systems such as SAP, MES and other related hardware
  • Basic understanding of PLCs and Control Systems
