Princes Long Sutton are recruiting for an Asset Care Manager to join their Engineering Department. Reporting into the Site Engineering Manager this position will deputise and be a key position to help ensure the success of the site. We are one of the UK’s most critical food manufacturing hubs. Position Overview
Princes Long Sutton is on a journey. We are aggressively moving away from a legacy of reactive firefighting toward a future of world-class reliability and planned asset care. We have the investment, the data, and the roadmap—now we need the Asset Care Manager to lead the charge.

As the Deputy Site Engineering Manager, you will be the operational engine of this transition. You will manage the day-to-day "heat" of the site while maintaining a relentless focus on long-term change. When the SEM is representing Engineering at the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) level, you are the deputy, standing in to ensure Engineering remains a strategic pillar of the site's success.

The Mission: Lead the Transition
  • Stop the Firefighting: Use your passion for reliability to transition the site from "fix-on-fail" to a state of controlled, planned maintenance.
  • PPM Revolution: Master and optimize the site’s 20,000+ PPMs. You will identify what adds value, what needs frequency adjustment, and what needs a complete redesign.
  • Culture of RCA: Ensure that Root Cause Analysis isn't just a paperwork exercise but a tool that your 12 Leads use to permanently eliminate failures.

Key Responsibilities
1. SLT Deputizing & Strategic Representation
• High-Level Stand-in: Represent the Engineering department at SLT meetings. You must be a confident, articulate speaker capable of discussing P&L, safety, and operational strategy with the site leads.
• Departmental Voice: Bridge the gap between the shop floor and the boardroom, translating technical engineering challenges into clear, data-backed business cases.
2. Global Outage & Contractor Management
• International Coordination: Lead full-line outages involving specialist OEM contractors from across the globe. You will manage the logistics, safety, and technical execution of these high-stakes windows.
3. Financial & Resource Stewardship
• Budget Ownership: Full direct control of maintenance and outage spend.
• Stock Optimization: Partner with the Stores Manager to manage the £4.5m inventory, ensuring it evolves alongside our proactive maintenance strategy.

As a part of the Engineering function, this role will work with the site and Group to strive to achieve optimal operational efficiency at the lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the function:

Work closely with the Site Engineering Manager, Engineering function, Site Leadership Team, Group Engineering and Projects Team to support the delivery of an agreed manufacturing vision and strategy. 

Dimensions
  • Responsible for delivery of the sites asset management strategy. 
  • Responsible for improving asset reliability and minimising costs.
  • Responsible for contributing towards the reduction of site utility consumption in line with Site and Group targets. 
  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager and responsibility for direct reports.
  • Work with operational peer groups sharing best practice and providing advice and support as required.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Quality, Hygiene  
  • Undertake duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which form part of the Integrated Management System.
  • Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements
  • Embrace a culture of safe behavior and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas
  • Support a culture enhancing behavioural awareness to reduce accidents, incidents and near misses.
Asset Care Management
  • Execute efficient and effective asset care programmes, implementing a standardised asset care approach with the drive to ensure effective maintenance systems, in line with the Group PMS Principals.
  • Support the implementation of the Group asset care strategy across the site in conjunction with the Princes interpretation of the JIPM model involving AM, PRM and EEM.
  • AM – Proactively support Autonomous Maintenance.
  • PRM – Drive Professional Maintenance steps.
  • EEM – Engage and support in Early Equipment Management on Capital projects
  • Ensuring cost of maintenance and maintaining assets is transparent and known.
  • Support the development of SAP PM and other systems to drive planning and control and focussed improvements.
  • Play an active role as a member of the site engineering team in the development and delivery of the manufacturing strategy for the business.
  • Directly manage on-site contractors and in-house resources, providing clear direction to ensure projects/Asset Management activity is carried out to best practice, current legislation and strict H&S guidelines.
  • Identify and champion and support opportunities for change through rationalisation / integration projects, in order to improve margins, reduce costs and maximise profitability for the benefit of all stakeholders.
  • Maintain and exceed engineering standards etc. within group supply operations ensuring that substandard performance is identified and remedied.
  • Support operational team through daily engineering processes by utilizing reactive team members effectively.
Stores Management
  • Understand and support the stores development programme in whatever way deemed appropriate for the site.  Could be with the application of new technology or storage systems.
  • Support the implementation of effective materials management through SAP MM with optimised levels of spares and stock accuracy and service levels and known cost of asset spares.
Site Services and Energy Management
  • Understand the site services KPI framework to drive performance standards of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity and Steam. Where a situation with new machine technology arises maximize the energy and environmental efficiency opportunities within current technological boundaries.
Site Electrical Management
  • Understand and work within site electrical standards at a minimum compliant with current relevant legislation and the Princes group standards.
Site Capital Plan Management
  • Working with the site engineering and production teams support the implementation of capital projects from initial concept through to successful conclusion and sign-off, including:
    Preparation and enabling work.
    Installation and commissioning.
    Training and performance trials.
  • Work with operational peer groups sharing best practice and providing advice and support as required. 
  • Work with functional peer groups across sites sharing best practice and providing advice and support as required. 
Continuous Improvement
  • Support the transition from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned in advance, 20% of engineering time on C.I. with 75% known utilisation of engineers.
  • Promote and drive 5S and GMP and other continuous improvement tools to identify areas for improvement to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction
  • Continually review performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve KPI’s
Manage/Develop People 
  • Drive the training and development of the Engineering team.
  • Promote the highest levels of motivation and engagement, demonstrating effective leadership and communication. 
  • Manage, develop and motivate the team, ensuring they have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience necessary to undertake their duties effectively
  • Conduct self in line with site values and behaviours at all times.
  • Support a culture of ownership within the site team for the on-going development of the facilities. Evoke a proactive approach to change and improvement in the performance of the sites.
Technical Leadership
  • Act as first point of technical support for Operations and Shift Managers in relation to Asset Care Management
  • Apply defined best practice in Asset Care Management activity
  • Develop and apply own specialist technical skills in support of Asset Care Management KPI’s
  • Ensure that anyone involved in the Asset Care Management process have a full understanding of the fundamentals of the processes and that any new technology and procedures are introduced in a manner that improves the competitive cost base of the Asset Care requirements for the site.
Communication
  • Work closely with support functions (HR, H&S, Manufacturing, Technical, Logistics and Finance) to ensure resources required are identified and communicated with all outstanding issues resolved.
  • Communicate daily with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure asset care plans for the site are executed as scheduled.
  • Liaise daily/hourly as required with colleagues within and cross functionally regarding asset care matters
  • Communicate daily with engineering and manufacturing to ensure asset care schedules take into account production priorities and considerations
  • Ensure communication to other sites and peers are undertaken as and when required to ensure consistency and best practice.
  • Communicate daily with manufacturing to affirm all production issues are being resolved in a timely manner. 
Experience Required
  • The "Tools to Management" Journey: You must be a time-served engineer (Apprenticeship/NVQ Level 3) who has progressed into senior management. Your shop-floor credibility is what will win the "hearts and minds" of the team.
  • Technical Foundation: Formal Electrical or Mechanical qualifications are essential.
  • Scale Mastery: Proven experience managing large, multi-tiered teams (40+) in high-speed Food/FMCG environments.
